ISAIAS CROW: TIME TRAVELER @ OPEN SPACE LA

Crewest + Open Space Present:

TIME TRAVELER
A collection of paintings by Isaias Crow.

Curated by Man One.

TIME TRAVELER - is a collection of paintings inspired by Isaias Crow's travels on the physical and spiritual plane through time and space. These paintings were all painted or conceived in various geographical locations as far east as Derry, Ireland; London, UK and Paris, France to as far south as Costa Rica and within the American continent in Houston, Albuquerque, Oklahoma, Trenton, New York, Miami, Los Angeles and at his art studio in San Diego, CA.

While traveling, Crow received epiphanies about life, relationships, love, death and about being a soul at the core. The connection and access we have to other souls living in the spirit realm and our pre-birth plan - of what we "chose" to experience while experiencing life. All the while Crow is painting canvases and murals in the places that he's visiting with the materials that are or aren't available and with that also discovering different techniques and approaches to his art. As a result, he's transmitting positive energy frequencies from all these different locations and conveying that onto the canvas.

This collection compiles all these different experiences into one moment in time - Isaias Crow's first solo exhibition in Los Angeles, California. We present to you TIME TRAVELER.

"I remember while in London:

Standing still at the London Bridge Tube Station, I had a realization, I like it here. The tunnels, the connections of subways, the diverse cultures that are all moving from one line to another . Countless people traveling to their destination. The energy is like none other that I've encountered other than New York's subways . I hold back tears. I have an understanding that what is inside is outside. This infrastructure is the same / a replica of how our souls navigate to arrive to this space - earth. In the tube we all travel as one - we get off at different destinations and at different times.. Yet we all came from the same source - the same train station.

Reflecting on my artwork now, I see that creating the C-Rollers (paint rollers I cut out to create different linear sizes) and all the pattern work with multitude of colors is my rendition - my understanding of this interior and exterior infrastructure - the plan - the pre-birth plan.

I'm on route - I'm on my path - I'm time-traveling. I'm a TIME TRAVELER."

END OF THE WORLD!

Please join our good friend Chaz Bojorquez on Friday, December 21, 2012, 6 PM - 2 AM, at Plaza De La Raza, Boathouse Gallery for his END OF THE WORLD exhibit!

Smogtown presents a solo exhibition titled “END OF THE WORLD” featuring new works by Los Angeles esteemed artist, Chaz Bojorquez.

Opening reception accompanied with entertainment program is Friday, December 21, 2012, 6 PM - 2 AM, at Plaza De La Raza, Boathouse Gallery, 3540 Mission Road, Los Angeles, 90031.  Exhibition runs through January 31, 2013.

The Mayan calendar has just completed a full cycle of 5,125 years as of December 21st, 2012
predicted as an apocalypse ‘End of the World’ of humanity, glorified by movies, rushed occult writers, bloggers and New Age visionaries foreseeing all manner of monumental change, from dooms day to a new age of enlightenment.

To celebrate this singularly monumental moment in time, the evening includes a special ceremonial Mayan dance performed by Danza Xipitotec, live music by Youth Mariachi Plaza de la Raza, Very Be Careful and DJ Beeside.

We'll be there supporting a long time Crewest friend and LA Godfather of graffiti.
Hope you can make it to!

GROWING BUZZ OF STREET ART BIZ SAYS KCET

The Growing Buzz of Street Art Biz

"Never mind restoring a Los Angeles art aesthetic. Downtown seems determined to be "The Mural Economic Capital Of The World."
After its underground beginnings during 1970s New York, the last decade has seen street art become a close working partner with entrepreneurship. In many cases that includes murals. It's a delicate balance of commentary and business fueled by pop-art populism.
First, one has to admit that ethnic-based murals sometimes keeps its distance, since most of that authorship prefer to voice the underserved. Street art, on the other hand, is about city residency and experience -- or at least visitation rights by suburbanites -- without needing an exclusive tie to ethnicity.
That broader appeal works on several levels. When it borders on the fringe of fine art in urban public space, an urgent primal coded message is found on dinged abandoned blocks, passing on a secret to those looking for it. When it's placed on a large wall, it's pointed out as public art, and in Los Angeles, part of a larger legacy.
When street art killer bees pollinate the street art movement by blogging and tweeting out global images, it creates a demand, as seen in April around downtown Los Angeles.
During Art Walk, Brit Week opened at Farmer's And Merchant's Bank to bring awareness to creativity and innovation between Britain and the U.S. This lead-in to this Summer's Olympic Games in London will have the T4C Artists Competition Closing Ceremony and Art Battle LA,billed as a live competition "between four notorious names in the London and Los Angeles street and graffiti art scenes." Los Angeles' Man One and Mear One will be pitted against UK's Inkie and Eine on Thursday, April 26, at the Continental Gallery (408 S. Spring Street) to paint on recycled furniture pieces designed by Christopher Guy.
That project shows how Los Angeles packages street art as a creative import for the city."
